We finally took Jaycee in for her first haircut. I was waiting for the sides to grow out long enough that she wouldn't look bald if we cut it. Yeah!! no more mullet!!

Fall Break 2011

For Fall Break this year we went to visit Grandma and Papa in Idaho. For me it is always relaxing. I am able to forget the rest of the world for a few days and the kids love the adventure.

My dad was working on reshingling the roof so we got to help. I was surprised that the kids had no fear. They were up and down the ladder all day. Jaycee just wanted to run up there, so she got very limited time on the roof. Jorie would climb down the ladder, collect twigs, climb back up and then proceed to throw the twigs off the roof on the opposite side to watch the cats run for them. It kept her busy for hours.

While we were there we took the kids (and John) to see Shoshone Falls for the first time. We were surprised by the amount of water still flowing this time of year. It was beautiful.

Poor Jaycee. She doesn't get as much camera/blog time as the other two. She is like her mom. She doesn't really like to pose for pictures, but we finally caught her this time. Isn't she adorable?

Jorie is attending her second year at Kinderstartin' Preschool. She loves it and was so excited to go back even though she is counting down the days until she is in Kindergarten and gets to go to school with Cameron.

Well we survived Cameron's first day of 1st grade. It is an adjustment for Cameron, Jorie and I to have Cameron gone all day. I hope it gets easier for all of us as the year goes on. He loves his teacher and is excited to be able to see all of his friends again, so I am sure we will all adjust.

Week #9 THEME: Native Americans

This week we learned about Native Americans and read about some of the stories about nature they passed on. We learned about petroglyphs and each child got to make thier own story using pictures. For our fieldtrip we went to see some petroglyphs that are in the hills by Unity Pass in Eagle Mountain, UT.

Week #8 THEME:Airplanes

This week we learned about airplanes. Each child got to make their own paper airplane and paper helicopter. For our field trip we went to the Cedar Valley Airport. It is a privately owned airport so we saw small planes. While were were there we got to watch a plane take up a glider (plane with no engine) and release it. The kids got to see both the plane and the glider come back in and land.

So I am way behind in the bloggling business....

Here are some pictures from Jorie's Birthday Party. We were going to have a water party playing in the pool, water balloons and blowing bubbles. It rained for three days straight before her birthday and the forcast called for afternoon showers on her birthday so last minute we changed the plan and played Tangled games instead. And it didn't rain. Oh well they had fun anyway.

This week we learned about Pioneers and some of the things they did. At our learning day they made butter and played some fun pioneer games like: Button, Button, who has the Button; The Stick Pull; and Three Legged Races.

For our field trip we went to This is The Place, Heritage Park. What a fun place. There was so much for the kids to see and do to learn about what life was like for the pioneers.

For our field trip we went to the State Capitol Building. I had made arrangements for my cousin, who is a state representative, to speak to the group. Unfortunately, Jorie got sick and threw up that morning so she and I weren't able to attend. Thank you to our neighbor for taking Cameron and getting some great pictures.

A lady in our neighborhood has organized a summer learning program called " Lit and Learning" . Each week has a different theme. On Tuesdays, we meet at a host home to read some books about that subject and do an activity or craft. On Thursdays, we go on a group field trip that correlates with the Tuesday subject. Last week was our first week. The theme: THE FARM. For our field trip we went to Wheeler Farm.

Pony Express Days Parade

Pony Express Days has become a tradition for our family ever since Cameron and John were in the parade back in 2005. (and 2006). This year we ventured out and added the Movie in the Park to our Pony Express Days Adventure. The movie was Despicible Me, one of the kids favorites. Oh so much fun! The next morning was the parade. The last few years we have enjoyed watching from the sidelines. This year Cameron and Jorie got to be in it, walking with their dance group. Here are some pictures of the parade.

Each year the preschool teacher arranges for the fire fighters to meet the kids in the park and talk to them about fire safety. It is fun for the kids and a great reminder of how to be safe.

May 13 & 14 was our ward Fathers and Sons Campout. Jorie was so upset she couldn't go with John and Cameron so I decided we needed to have a fun girls night out and get our toes done. She was so excited she talked about it for a week. When we got there I was afraid she had changed her mind. The pedicurist was a man and that really freaked her out at first. We had to share the foot spa for the first few minutes until she decided she could move over to her own chair. Jorie loved getting her toes painted. For days she kept saying, "I have never had a flower on my toe before!" And luckily, Jaycee cooperated too!

Cameron Lost his First Tooth

Cameron lost his first tooth on April 27, 2011. It had been wiggly for a few weeks. The thought of pulling it out really freaked him out. Luckily one day it just fell out while he was brushing. We put it in a little bag so it wouldn't get lost under his pillow. We wanted to make sure the Tooth Fairy found it. The next morning he was so excited to find a $1 bill.

So much has happened since Jaycee was born two months ago, I have just been to busy with three children to sit down and blog. So today I decided to take the time to post a little update to our lives.

Lagoon Day 2010

May 22nd was the annual Megadiamond Lagoon Day. We didn't have the most ideal weather for a day out in the park. It was cold and overcast. The weather did keep the crowds away and so at least we didn't have to wait in line for rides. Jaycee and I left for a few hours to go visit my Grandma in Ogden so I only went on a few rides. Cameron convinced me to go on the Ladybug Pop with him. Ohhhhhhhh! It is just a kiddie ride but I hate heights.

Pony Express Days Parade

This year we decided to sit at the beginning of the parade. I thought the kids always came home with a lot of candy and goodies in years past, but this year we got so much stuff. T-shirts, water bottles, hats, coupons, and lots and lots of candy. It is always lots of fun.

So much fun, that the girls were tuckered out when we got home. Here I am with my two sleeping girls.

A Week at Grandma and Papa's House

John had a business trip to Atlanta, GA so I took the kids to Idaho to spend a week with Grandma and Papa. We went on a fishing adventure. We drove to the ends of the earth to my uncle's secret spot to fish. He caught some but we weren't so lucky. At least we had a good fish story to tell when we were done!

Our Garden 2010

John and my dad got our garden planted while I was in the hospital with Jaycee. We are starting to enjoy the fruits of our labors. We have had radishes and lettuce. I cut broccoli a few days ago and this morning we picked the first of the peas. I love having a garden. The kids are so good about helping us plant and harvest.

So we finally had our first big snow storm of the season. The kids decided that they wanted to go out and try to build a snowman this afternoon. Unfortunately, the snow was total powder and would not stick together so they had to improvise and find other ways to play in the snow.

One, Two, Three?

Cameron has been asking for another baby for over 6 months. In the spring he told the neighbor we were having another baby. He was making toys for the baby during one of my parents visits.

WELL..... he has finally convinced his Mom (and Dad) that it is time. We will have a new little Hutton in Mid-April. We are so excited, but Cameron and Jorie the most. Cameron has started telling everyone (much to my chagrin!)

A Quick Review of the last month....

Cameron started preschool the last week of August. He loves it. It is a different one than he went to last year but it is closer (only a few houses down the street). He has even walked there by himself a few times. He is getting so grown up and learning so much. The other night I was working on the computer and he was sitting at the desk next to me writing on a piece of paper. He asked me, "How do you spell 'A'? I responded,"It is just the letter A." He thought for a minute and then he said, "How do you spell 'L'?" I told him,"you don't spell L it is just the letter 'L'?" He didn't like this response. Again he asked, " How do you spell 'L'?" I gave him the same answer. By this point he was getting very frustrated with me and I a little with him. I tried to explain that letters are letters and you don't spell them like words. He then said to me..."Well I spelled the letter 'Y'!" And sure enough, on his paper it said "WHY". How do you argue with that?

In honor of my Grandmother's birthday the Peterson Family Reunion was held at the Harris Pond in Burley, ID. It is a fun man made pond at the Harris family's home. They have canoeing, a zip line, large swing, and pavillion that they allow groups to use for big activities. We had a great time playing in the water, riding the kiddie train, and gathering candy from the Candy Cannon!

This year was Cameron's First year in Soccer. It was your typical 4-5 year old soccer. The swarm that follows the ball. He had fun meeting new friends, running around the field, making grass angels and doing somersaults. He is a perfectionist...so if the ball didn't go where he wanted it to it was cause for major meltdown. We are going to try baseball next....not so much contact.

Grandpa Reed

On Friday evening my grandfather, Reed Howey Henderson passed away. A wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather. We will miss you Grandpa Reed.

Friday night at about 5:00 pm we got the call saying my grandfather had passed away. My dear sweet sensitive Cameron came and sat on my lap. As I explained to him that Grandpa Reed had died and had gone to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again, Cameron looked at me and said "But he will come back, Right?" I explained that we would see him again after we die. He started crying and said,"I will miss him".
"Me too my dear...me too."
And we sat and held each other and cried.
A tribute to a wonderful man, who lived a long fulfilling life.

Our trip to the East Coast

We had a great time on our vacation. This was the kids first airplane ride. I was anxious to see how well they would travel. We were very pleasantly surprised. They were both angels on the ride. We had many comments from other passengers about their good behavior. I am proud of them.

The day after we arrived we took the kids to the trolley museum in Connecticut. We got to go for a ride in an old trolley and then see many old trolleys and fire engines. We were all still recovering from jet lag and Cameron kept asking to go back to the hotel to take a nap. (strange for a 4 year old who doesn't nap) I think staying in a hotel ranks in Cameron's top 5 activities of the entire vacation!

On Friday we spent the day in New York City.

We rode the train in from CT. Grand Central Station was amazing.

Above are a few of the sites we saw in New York City. John would have loved to go to the Late Show but we weren't there long enough and we had the kids.

It was our goal to see the temple while we were there. We were almost under it before we recognized it. We were able to go inside and upstairs where the chapel is for Sunday meetings and read about the opening of the temple.

Central Park was beautiful. I was surprised at how clean it was for as many people that visit daily. Do you recognize the Bethesda Fountain? It can be seen in many movies.

We went to Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty. A New York Landmark you can't miss.Another on Cameron's list of favorites was Spiderman at Battery Park. He really could have cared less about the Statue of Liberty. While we were looking at the Statue of Liberty he kept asking if he could see Spiderman. I had no idea what he was talking about. Luckily his dad did, and took them over for a picture. We also got to see the Kalipso Tumblers (America's Got Talent Stars for those who are not fans of the show).

On our way to New Hampshire to the Lake House we took a slight detour to visit a Maple Syrup Farm and see the birthplace of the prophet Joseph Smith. We got to see how they tap the tree for the syrup and try to carry the heavy buckets through the tires to see what it would be like to carry buckets of sap through the snow and watched a movie about how they boil down the 30-40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.

It was great to be able to visit one of the church history sites while we were there and to learn more about the life of the prophet.

We spent one night at my father-in-law's cousin's lake house. The kids got to go kayaking and play in the private beach.

On Tuesday, we went to Boston. Our first stop was the Boston Temple. It is fun for the kids to see all of the different temples.
In Boston we ate lunch in Boston Common, went on the Freedom Trail and learned more about the history of Boston and shopped at Quincey Market. The Carousel was another of Cameron's most memorable times.
At the end of our day in Boston we were invited to dinner at Reed and Doris Alexander's home with all of the extended family. It was fun to meet many of John's family.

On Wednesday before we boarded the plane to come home we made it to the beach. This too made Cameron's Top 5.Cameron and Jorie working on the sand castle and Cameron with the crab shell. It is a good thing he always prays that he won't get bitten by a lobster or a crab. We made it though the beach day safely.

On our way home we missed our flight from Georgia to Utah so we had to stay there overnight. This will be Cameron's number 1 memory. We missed our plane, but we got to stay in a really nice hotel and jump on the beds.

I had applied the white frosting and worked until it was smooth. I took what was left of the white frosting to color it for the stars and when I turned back around Jorie had made her mark!

We had a wonderful 4th of July. First we made homemade Ice Cream.

We invited the Hutton's over to a great BBQ. Hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, chips, brownies and lots more!

We decided to watch the fireworks at Thanksgiving Point. Last year we drove all the way to Lehi to watch them and on the way home realized that we could probably see them just as well from Saratoga Springs. So about a week ago we went for an evening drive and found us a good place to watch them. We got there early to make sure we got our space. So to fill up the time we had snaps, snakes and sparklers. And of course the favorite passtime of UNO.

The kids watched the first few minutes of the fireworks so well. Jorie would tell us what color each one was for the first 10 minutes and then lost interest. Cameron decided to join Grandpa Hutton in the car. He assured us that Grandpa wanted to play UNO.

My friend had more cherries that she knew what to do with so she offered me some. I loved canned cherries as a kid so I decided to can some. I borrowed my friends cherry pitter and we went to work.

Here they are washing the cherries. Cameron also helped me use the cherry pitter. He loved it. I later found that I probably should have supervised the pitting process a little closer. One of the jars didn't seal and so I opened them so I could eat a few. I ate a few and then I got one with a pit. Oops! I thought. Then I ate a few more. 90% of that bottle still had the pits in them. I don't think he pushed hard enough to push the pit all the way out. So if you eat any canned cherries at my house...beware you may find a surprise!

They love the garden and always want to be in the middle of what I am doing. On Thursday we picked 2 grocery bags of peas and they helped me shell them and freeze them. Jorie likes to snack on the raw ones. Cameron is all about business. It is a race to see who can fill their bowl with peas first.

We had a great time at the Ward Campout! It was Jorie's first camping experience. We did learn, however, that group sleep doesn't really work for Jorie. She has a really hard time settling down when she is not alone. She just kept talking and talking. I asked her to stop talking and go to sleep. She said, "OK" and then on and on she went. Finally, I said, "Everyone just ignore her so she will stop talking. " It was quiet for a minute. Then she said, "Bunny? What Doing?" If we wouldn't talk to her she would find someone who would.

Bridal Veil Falls

Unfortunately, the weather during Spring Break was less than desirable. John and I made great plans to take the kids to Bridal Veil Falls and have a picnic. When we got there the rain was just a dribble, so we decided we would try it and see how things would go. By the time we got to the falls the rain became a little harder. So we took our snapshot and loaded both kids in the back of the double stroller where there is a cover for their heads. The whole way down Jorie kept poking her head out of the cover and saying, "It's Raining! It's Raining!". And then Cameron said,"It's just not very good weather is it?" So needless to say we ended up having our Picnic in Grandma and Grandpa Hutton's living room.

The Hutchings Museum is a cute little musuem in Lehi. They have war displays, a pioneer room, the wild west, dinosaurs and rocks and minerals. They have a lot of hands on exhibits for the kids. The kids really enjoyed it.

Cameron had been asking for a red tunic for several weeks. In fact one day he came home from school and asked me to make him a red tunic that day. I explained that I didn't have any red fabric to make one, that we would have to buy some. He found a red spool of thread and brought it to me and said, "You could make it out of this Mom!" An idea from Family Fun....The flowers are made from the kids hand prints.

Making Paper Mache Eggs

I saw this idea in the Family Fun Magazine and thought that the kids would have fun making them. Again my kids showed their true personalities. Cameron was totally grossed out by having to touch the gooey, sticky paper mache glue. So I had to get him a paint brush so that he could paint the "goo" on so as not to get it on his hands. Half way through he lost interest and I ended up finishing his egg. Jorie on the other hand was loving the mess. She would have done it with her fingers, but had to have a paintbrush when her brother did. That probably helped me with the clean up, so no complaint here. She and Daddy worked so diligently on her egg all the way to the end.

Coloring Easter Eggs

We decided to color our Easter Eggs today since tomorrow will be very busy. We have made special arrangements with the Easter Bunny to come to our house on Saturday since John and I both have meetings on Sunday morning. The kids had a lot of fun together coloring their share. It is fun to see their personalities come out in everything they do. I divided up the eggs giving each child half. Cameron didn't waste any time. He chose to color one egg at a time. He had a very streamlined process, in and out.

Jorie on the other hand is a multi-tasker. She had to have an egg in every color at once. And each had to sit in the dye for an extended period of time to achieve maximum color. And no one was allowed to help her. She assigned me an egg that I could color and I was strongly repremanded if I tried to help with a different one. See the video clips below.

Trip to Grandma and Papa's house in Idaho

We had a great time in Idaho visiting Grandma and Papa. The boys went to scout camp with Papa. Cameron got to learn the rules of gun safety and see an old mine house. The girls visited at Grandma's and enjoyed some R&R.

They both had to try on Papa's boots. Maybe someday they will fit.

This old stove used to be outside at my grandparents house. We used to make mud pies when we would go to visit. Those are fond memories. We told Cameron the stories of making mud pies, so of course he had to have the "recipe". So I taught him everything I know! Isn't that just the best mud pie you have ever seen?

We took them up to the Elba Park to play on the new playgound.

I think I still like the old swing set the best.

In the car on the way to Idaho and back. Cameron started telling Knock Knock jokes. Mostly about chicken of course. Jorie who is Cameron's little copy cat soon picked up on it too. The video above is her telling her very own, made up, knock knock joke.

Jorie's First Professional Haircut

I was tired of all of the layers in Jorie's hair. So I decided to get her haircut.
Here she is all grown up sitting in the pink car at CookieCutters. I love this place. I have been taking Cameron there for about 6 months now. They get to pick their car and watch a movie while they are getting a haircut.

She sat so still. It was so much better than I anticipated. Watching Elmo really takes their mind off of the cut.

Isn't she just as cute as ever? So grown up. I love it. Now it can grow in evenly.

My kids were so excited to wake up to snow this morning. They ran around and played in it while I shoveled the walks. Then Cameron went to his friend Max's house and they went sledding. They are sad that it is starting to melt. But I am sure John is glad it is melting. He said it took over 2 hours to get to work this morning. Yuck! These are the days I am reminded how grateful I am that I can just stay home if I want too.

Cameron is becoming such a great help around the house. He has learned to make his bed. He likes to make our bed too. I have gotten in trouble a time or two for making it before he has a chance. Today he got the bottle of water and asked for a rag so he could help me clean. He cleaned his bathroom, my bathroom, the basement....
So anyone looking for good help. We might consider letting him do some contract work if the price is right. $$$$

"It hurt my brain"

Kids....Funny story...It wasn't funny a few hours ago. But I am laughing now.

So I have been holding on to my birthday money to buy a new comforter for our bed. Finally after a month of looking I finally found one I really liked. I ordered it and it arrived yesterday. So today I got it out, ironed the bed skirt, and washed my sheets. I got the bed all made and put the new pillow shams on the pillows. I talked with Cameron about taking care of my new "bed". He jumped up on the bed and laid down to watch PBS. About an hour later I came back in and noticed that three of the four buttons were missing on one of my pillow shams. I was livid. I finally got Cameron to fess up to doing it and located the missing buttons. I asked him, "Why would you pull the buttons off of my new bed?" And this was his reply,"Because, they hurt my brain." How can you not laugh at that? He is probably lucky he said that or he might have spent the rest of the day in timeout!!!!

We thought he was making it up so we asked him what it looked like and he said, "I don't know." John said,"Did you like the bears?" And Cameron would respond, "And the Peek-a-too". John said,"How about the giraffes?" and the response was the same, "...and the Peek-a-too." We decided to drop it and have him tell Grandma Hutton what his favorite animal was. Maybe John and I missed an animal at the zoo. Again at the Hutton's the response was the same. "My favorite animal was the Peek-a-too." Grandma looked at us and us at her. Still stumped. "Was it a snake?", "No", Was it a monkey?", "No", "Was it a bird?", "Yes!" Finally we realized that his favorite animal was the Cockatoo.

So I took this a few weeks ago and am just now getting around to posting. We are actually starting to get produce from our garden. This is a picture of the first harvest...Zucchini and Peas. We have since gotten green beans, cucumber and today cauliflower. We are having fresh veggie stir fry tonight for dinner. Yum! Yum! I love fresh vegetables.

The kids spent a week at Grandma and Papa's house in Idaho while I was at Girl's Camp.

We started out the day by going to a neighborhood flag ceremony.
They read quotes, and sang songs.
Then they had sack races, a tug-o-war, and face painting.
Cameron waited in line for what felt like forever to get his face painted like a cat.
Then wanted it washed off immediately after.

We bought a few sparklers. Cameron was so excited to get started.

Jorie liked watching. We also went to Lehi to watch the fireworks at Thanksgiving Point. The kids loved it. The best part was Jorie's sweet little "ouuuuuuuu" for each firework.

Unfortunately, it was by a 3 year old barber. I came home from the grocery store and John handed me a small chunk of hair and said, "You might want to save this." All I could say was. "AHHHHHHHHH!!" Cameron took one chunk right off the back of her head. Luckily, it isn't too noticeable. It was a hard to get it in pictures.
